What is Keto?
You've all been wondering about Keto? So we thought we would get in touch with someone who knows and asked Ally from Keto and Ko all about the Keto diet and why she started her Keto business.
Keto and Ko's mission is to educate people on their bodies to help people feel better, perform better, think better by using the finest natural ingredients from the best possible sources.
1. What is Keto in simple terms?
Restricting your carb intake to put your body in a ketosis state, which can help lose fat and increase energy.
2. Why did you decided to Keto and start a business?
I have always been Keto Paleo without knowing it, and while overseas I was blown away by the low carbs options and that were available. Australia is pretty behind this scene.
I loved the idea of a bulletproof coffee, but the thought of butter in coffee in wasn't me and this lead me to make my own dairy free version and start my business venture. Our Creamers aren't just Keto, they are also Paleo, Gluten Free and Dairy Free.
3. What have you found to be the main benefits to your lifestyle being Keto?
For me, it was reducing stored body fat, I have always been slim and tall with skinny arms and legs and would generally store fat on my mid section. Going Keto helped me lose this stored fat.
4. Do you miss eating a high carbohydrate diet?
No not really, because I have been on a low carb diet since I can remember. I have adapted to this style of eating and I wouldn't eat bread, pasta, rice, sugar or dairy even if someone paid me to.
5. Do you have any recommendations for someone who is interested in the keto diet?
I think the best advice would be adapt a Keto diet slowly, don't go cold turkey.
If you eat 3 meals a day, the first week substitute one of those meals to full Keto, next week 2 meals and so on.
Look at nutritional labels you will be surprised the amount of carbs in foods you usually eat.
6. What does a day on your plate look like?
I like to change this up a little, I always followed a strict Paleo diet but I've decided to go red meat free for a couple weeks.
Breakfast - Shotproof Creamer and add cinnamon and maca too. If I'm training I may have a protein drink.
Lunch grilled fish and veggies (usually low carbs like kale, spinach, cucumber etc)
Snack is a smoothie - Almond milk, coconut flesh, ice, Cacao powder and almond butter or Blueberries, protein and coconut milk.
Dinner is the same as lunch. Meat and veggie, Salmon and broccoli or turkey and green soup - made with broth and zucchini.
Treats and snacks can include dark chocolate, coconut yogurt and protein powder, Almond butter and celery.
7. What do you like to do for fun?
I love spending time with my family, my 2 year old keeps me busy. I also love traveling and Crossfit.
